Things To Do In Candidasa – Bali Dreaming

Things To Do In Candidasa

Candidasa is a great coastal destination that definitely is a nice slower paced, beautiful area of Bali. This does not mean there is nothing to do in Candidasa. Here are some great ways to spend your time and great things to do in Candidasa.

Bike Through The Surrounding Villages

Candidasa Bikes

Candidasa Villages

We used the bikes from our hotel and asked for a map and off we went. The surrounding scenery and villages are beautiful and one of the great things to do in Candidasa. No matter where you stay try and stay at a place with bicycle rental and just ask for some great routes. We timed our ride around sunset, but as soon as it gets dark it can get really dark! Not many street lights through the villages 😉

Cooking Class

Alila Manggis Cooking Class

Whilst you can do cooking classes anywhere in Bali, one of our favourites that we have done was through Alila Manggis, so if you where thinking of doing a cooking class in Bali, this could be your option if your visiting Candidasa. The experience is set in their organic garden with amazing views and delicious food, which is the most important thing.

Visit Bias Tugel Beach

Bias Tugel Beach

Bias Tugel

This is one of our favourite beaches but sometimes, as with other Bali beaches, it may not have the best swimming conditions, with strong currents being a challenge. Beautiful small beach though.

Visit Virgin Beach (Aka White Sand Beach Aka Pasir Putih)

Virgin Beach White Sand Beach

As Candidasa doesn’t have a proper ’beach’, White Sand beach, aka Pasir Putih beach, aka Virgin beach as it is now more popularly called is another beach option and another one of the great things to do in Candidasa. Easier to get to than Bias Tugel and more food and activity choice. Snorkelling is popular here, both from the beach or being taken further by boat. We snorkelled from the beach which to be honest wasn’t great, but glad we did it, and was still fun and something to do if you don’t just want to lay on the beach. I did enjoy my juice, cheers to you, beach with a thousand names.

Hire A Private Driver

This was how we chose to see the area and visit the beaches. Unfortunately I cannot find our drivers details, but he was great. Hotels will often have a list of private drivers at either ‘hotel organised’ rates or provide you with drivers details to negotiate your own rate. Private drivers are great as they often share local knowledge of the area, as well as being your driver for the arranged time, meaning if you visit Bias Tugel for example, your driver will be waiting for you and take you back too (or to the next stop!).

Stay In Accommodation With A Seaside View

Things To Do Candidasa

We stayed at Alila Manggis which was a beautiful hotel which had a great seaside view. This stretch of coast seems very tide affected. There is not a ‘Candidasa Beach’ because when it is high tide there is no beach. Hence staying ‘seaside’ not ‘beach’ but I actually loved watching the waves crash into land. If you’re looking for another hotel option, there are great options on Agoda and Booking.com if your looking for something else.

Candidasa Sunset

So there are definitely some great things to do in Candidasa on your trip. These are just what we have done ourselves and would love to hear in the comments some of your favourite sites and activities in Candidasa.

Tanah Lot – the incredible temples in Bali

Tanah Lot Temple

Bali is filled with incredible things to see and do and Tanah Lot is one of them. Sunset is one of the most popular times to visit this temple but is it the best time to visit? Tanah Lot is home to not only pretty scenery but a special temple too. There are so many incredible temples in Bali it would be impossible to pick a favourite, but Tanah Lot was definitely worth a visit.

Visiting Tanah Lot

How To Get To Tanah Lot

Tanah Lot Private Driver Picked Us up in Canggu

We used a Private Driver which we think is one of the best and stress free ways to experience parts of Bali. Taxi is another option but you would need to pay for the taxi to wait, and for parking, as you may have trouble getting a taxi for you return trip. Private Drivers may seem and may be more expensive, however you may be able to plan your trip so you can use a private driver in-between accommodation and see a few different amazing places on the way, making it a lot more value. You could do it as part of an organised tour too, if that is something you enjoy.

How Long Does It Take To Get To There?

Canggu to Tanah Lot

How long from Seminyak to Tanah Lot? Around the 40 Minute mark depending on traffic, but if you go for sunset we have heard this could double or even triple. Same applies when you and everyone else there leave straight after sunset. We left from Canggu to Tanah Lot and it took us about 20 minutes.

Tanah Lot Entrance Fee

Tanah Lot Area

I believe we paid 30,000 IDR which is affordable. If you want to experience a blessing at the temple a small donation is needed.

Is Sunset The Best Time To Go To Tanah Lot?

Tanah Lot Blessing

We had plans to make the trip to Tanah Lot for sunset on previous trips but never managed to make it. Traffic played a role for one our cancelations to the temple. This in mind we changed our Tanah Lot game plan this time round.

Both getting to and from sunset at Tanah Lot brings massive traffic congestion. One road in and one road out. You will need to be patient. Not one of my strong points when it comes to travel.

Tanah Lot View

We decided to try to avoid as much of the crowds as possible and avoid sunset. Bali is filled with incredible sunset spots so its not a huge sacrifice at all. We had a private driver starting from Canggu and ending in Ubud, so we decided that Tanah Lot could be a stop on the way.

When we got there, around 9am it was already very hot and not too busy but definitely a lot of visitors. If your planning when to come, and are happy to miss sunset, try to arrive in the morning before 10am. We left around 10am and it was really getting busy with tour groups by then. Also like all over Bali, the heat can get intense.

Tanah Lot Waves

Although we have seen some photographers getting incredible photos at high tide with the temple being an ‘island’ with soft flowing water all around it, and sunset looking amazing, we think that the morning is a great alternative. Not only can you walk over to the temple and get blessed, from the stories and traffic we have both heard and experienced, you will have a lot less time in traffic and experience Tanah Lot in a more relaxed way.

Is Tanah Lot Worth It?

The pathways and grounds were pretty well maintained and I really enjoyed it from the get go. It was really nice from the clifftops looking out to the sea, the temples and the beaches.

Tanah Lot Grounds

The Tanah Lot Temple itself is what most people come for. We timed the tides well, in that we could walk across to the temple, experience the blessings and get back to ‘land’ before the tide gets too high. By the time we left you would have needed to take your shoes off and walked through shallow flowing water to get across, and I believe that during high tide you cannot get across at all. I was slightly disappointed that the whole temple was not able to be visited. In fact the whole temple section seen on the top of the island is not able to be visited, which I can respect as the amount of people that would visit the top may be detrimental to the temple, so at the end of the day I am happy to have it unaccessible to visitors.

Tanah Lot Temple In The Sea

Overall, crowds included, we enjoyed Tanah Lot and are glad we went. With so many incredible temples in Bali you may need to decide which you would prefer to see. The rest of your Bali itinerary would play a role too, but if you can visit, we think it is worth it.

The Best Spas In Seminyak – Bali

Best Spas In Seminyak

Seminyak is full of spas, from cheap and cheerful to ultimate luxury. Getting a massage is a pretty common thing to do in Bali, and for good reason, they are amazing.  Although I haven’t tried them all yet, I definitely have some favourites. I will continuously update this article as I try out new spas, but for now, here are what I think are the best spas in Seminyak…

Spa At Peppers Seminyak

Spa at Peppers Seminyak

Spa at Peppers Seminyak is as relaxing as it is beautiful. Situated within the grounds of Peppers Seminyak, you can choose to have certain treatments done in your villa too. We had an amazing traditional Balinese massage that we didn’t want to end. They also offer a large range of other treatments.

Prana Spa

Walking into Prana Spa is like walking into a Moroccan Palace with vibrant colours and luxurious furnishings. We loved our entire experience here, from the surrounds to the massage. They also have yoga classes here too.

AMO Spa

AMO Spa Seminyak

AMO spa is a great spa to go to if you are looking for something really nice yet not super luxurious. They also have a heavy focus on beauty treatments too. We got the AMO scrub which involved a really nice scrub, body mask, massage which was all lovely, but then it finishes with bursts of water from the ceiling whilst you lay there which was all a little too much for me. Next time I’d probably keep things simple and stick to the massage 😉

Anantara Seminyak Spa

Anantara Spa Seminyak

A beautiful spa located within Anantara Seminyak, although you don’t need to be staying here to visit the spa. We had the Anantara Signature Massage here and it was really calming in a beautiful environment.

Espace

Espace Spa Seminyak

Espace is another nice spa but on the cheaper side in Seminyak. We tried the four hand massage… do I need to say more? Honestly this was amazing albeit a little intense.
