Ubud Accommodation Guide: Where To Stay In Ubud

Ubud Accommodation

Ubud is seen as the cultural heart of Bali. It’s pretty common to see traditional Balinese ceremonies and there’s always a rice field somewhere nearby. Ubud is full of health food cafes, spas, monkeys and yoga pants… and mats. The village itself has become more touristy and busy over the years, although the charm still remains particularly in the mornings and evenings. This is why I always recommend to stay in Ubud rather than do a day trip, it’s the only way to see the best of Ubud. Here’s our guide for Ubud Accommodation…

Where To Stay In Ubud? Lets Get Oriented.

Ubud Accommodation Map

When we talk about staying in Ubud, that really means two different options, staying in the village itself and staying in the outskirts. In the map above, you can see Ubud Village, with the main streets being Monkey Forest Road, Jl. Hanoman and Jl. Raya Ubud.

Option 1: Staying in Ubud Village

There are lots of pros to staying in the Ubud Village. If it’s your first time to Ubud it will make it easier to explore the streets, eat at the restaurants, go shopping and visit different spas. You will also have easy access to Ubud Monkey Forrest. However, staying in Ubud village will mean that it will be more touristy and much busier than if you stay in the outskirts, and depending on what you do, you may miss out on some of the natural beauty. This of course can be overcome by going on rice field walks, visiting waterfalls like Tegenungan and getting a private driver etc.

Option 2: Staying in the outskirts of Ubud

A lot of Ubud accommodation is located in the outskirts of Ubud, some not too far away from the village, others perhaps 30 minutes away. These hotels are often surrounded by the beautiful jungle or rice fields and often offer experiences to explore the surrounding nature and community. Your hotel may offer free shuttle transport into the village. Despite this, you will still be a little more isolated and may not have the same amount of time to explore the village. Having said that, If you’re staying in a beautiful hotel with restaurants, pool, a spa and other experiences, the isolation won’t be an issue, rather a time to relax.

There’s no right or wrong option, just different. We’ve stayed in both the village and different areas around Ubud and have absolutely loved all experiences.

Seminyak Accommodation Guide: Where To Stay In Seminyak

Seminyak is one of the most popular areas to stay in Bali. Brimming with delicious restaurants, beach bars, boutique shops, beaches and not to far from the Airport, it’s easy to see why. All this brings the crowds, so on the other side expect lots of tourists and busy streets. So figuring out where to stay in Seminyak is an important part of planning your holiday to Bali, to make sure you get the best Bali experience. Where to stay in Seminyak? Lets get oriented.

Seminyak Street Map

Here are a few things to help you get oriented to Seminyak, so when you look at a map of where your hotel is, you know whats directly around you.

Seminyak sits in between Legian (south of Seminyak) and Canggu (north of Seminyak).

Petitenget is an area of Seminyak that is more in the north and has some great restaurants and boutique shops. This is the area where Potato Head Beach Club and the W Hotel is situated.

Jalan Kayu Ayu (otherwise known as Laksmana) is one of the main streets in Seminyak lined with restaurants and boutique shops, however it is more inland and not right near the beach.

The southern area of Seminyak directly borders Legian, around the area of La Plancha beach bar and Double Six Beach. This area expectedly has more of a ‘Legian’ vibe than other parts of Seminyak, which isn’t a bad thing, just different.

And the area lining the beach, depending where exactly, may not be as close to the main shops and restaurants, but is obviously the easiest place to stay to access the beach.

Absolute Splurge: Luxury Accommodation In Seminyak

There are so many amazing places to stay in Bali, and Seminyak is no exception. We look for hotels in a great location, with great design and service. Here our our favourite picks for luxury accommodation in Seminyak.

Anantara Seminyak | from $314 AUD

Anantara Seminyak

Anantara Seminyak is a boutique hotel with only 60 rooms, perfect for couples. The rooms are absolutely massive (from 80 m2) and feel so luxurious with their marble and wood finishes. Oh, not to mention it’s right on Seminyak beach, the views over the beach are amazing and don’t even get me started about sunset. Anantara Seminyak also have a great spa and rooftop restaurant/bar, MoonLite Kitchen and Bar.

Alila Seminyak | from $263 AUD
Alila Seminyak

Although we haven’t yet stayed at Alila’s Seminyak hotel, we have absolutely loved staying with Alila in Ubud and Manggis. Alila is a brand we love and Alila Seminyak is their newest Bali hotel. It looks amazing and I’m in love with the minimal design. One thing I admire is that the hotel was designed and built to minimise the environmental impact.

Peppers Seminyak | from $620 AUD

Peppers Seminyak

Peppers Seminyak is a villa/hotel hybrid, combining the best of both worlds in Seminyak. With 48 villas ranging from 1 through to 5 bedrooms, and combining this with resort facilities such as a restaurant, gym, spa and pool (all villas have their own pool too!), leads to an unforgettable stay. We were blown away when we arrived and walked into our villa… even the door’s beautiful

W Hotel | from $482 AUD
W Hotel Seminyak

A hotel we are yet to stay in, but an obvious pick to recommend. The hotel is beautiful with a huge pool area, bars, restaurants, uniquely designed rooms and great dining.

The Legian | from $889 AUD
The Legian bali

The Legian is an iconic hotel, but don’t be fooled by the name, it’s actually in Seminyak. And it’s in a great location in Seminyak, right on the beach and also near shops, restaurants and beach clubs. A beautiful 5 star hotel that comes well reviewed.

The Samaya | from $771 AUD
The Samaya Seminyak

The Samaya is another 5 star hotel right on the beach and with shops, restaurants and beach clubs within walking distance. The Samaya is unique in that they only have pool villas. They also have a great restaurant where you can sit almost on the beach.

Luxe For Less

Courtyard By Marriott Seminyak | from $280 AUD

Courtyard By Marriott Seminyak Beyond The Room Pool

Courtyard By Marriott Seminyak is a great hotel for groups of friends, young couples and families. It’s a really inviting and fun hotel, with a great pool area, and in between the beach and the main road for shops.

U Paasha | from $205 AUD

U Paasha Seminyak

We loved our stay at U Paasha, with a great location, open spacious room and great rooftop pool. We also thought their idea of 24 hour check-in/check-out times were great and flexible. Basically if you check in at 6pm you can check out at 6pm.

Maca Villas & Spa | from $277 AUD
Maca Villas

We first discovered Maca Villas & Spa by visiting Ippolito Speciality Coffee which is located within the Mase Kitchen Restaurant, the restaurant linked to the Maca Villas & Spa. We loved our breakfast and coffee here, so that would be a nice addition to the beautiful villas. Although a little isolated, they offer a free shuttle service.

Hotels In Seminyak For Under $200/night

There are still lots of good options for under $200/night in Seminyak, but here are our favourite picks:

IZE Seminyak | from $120 AUD

IZE Seminyak looks like a hotel providing great value for money. In a great location, particularly for restaurants and shops, and with a simple modern design.

Four Points by Sheraton Bali Seminyak |

Located in a quieter part of Seminyak, stay here if you want to be in Seminyak but further away from the main area. A nicely designed hotel and rooms.

L Hotel Seminyak | from $102 AUD

The L Hotel Seminyak is in a quieter area of Seminyak, although still on a busy road. The design is aimed at luxury, albeit a little over the top at times. Still, it seems to provide good value for money.

Amadea Resort & Villas Seminyak |

Although the rooms are quite simple, the location is great, particularly for access to food and shopping. It also comes quite well reviewed.

We will continually updating this post with any new places we stay and love, to make sure we are recommending the best Seminyak Accommodation.
